AI is becoming increasingly capable in many domains, from language processing to image generation to problem-solving. This has led to concerns that AI could eventually automate or replace certain human jobs and tasks. I am merely a student studying computer engineering and science, I am definitely not an expert. So, I am here just to express my opinion instead of making a statement.
Well, I do think that AI will replace some of the human jobs, but not in the way that most people think. I believe that certain jobs, particularly those that involve repetitive, data-intensive, or rule-based tasks, will eventually be done by AI and by AI only. Tasks such as data entry, accounting, and even some of the customer service could be handled more efficiently and accurately by AI systems. Moreover, some problems that humans struggled to solve, such as complex scientific or mathematical issues, may be more efficiently tackled by AI.
However, AI will never fully replace humans, at least not in the foreseeable future. AI is still extremely narrow and specialized, with some systems only processing images and others only processing logic problems. Without a doubt, AI excels at specific tasks such as data processing and most repetitive tasks, but it seriously lacks the adaptability and “common sense” that we associate with human intelligence. Hence, it cannot make judgments or decisions that are truly logical or ethical from human perspectives. The only way AI learns is through extensive trial and error, which means they gain experience just like humans, but only much slower. This shows that they cannot think like a human being and will never truly understand humanity.
One area where AI could have a significant impact is in augmenting and enhancing human capabilities. Rather than fully replacing humans, it is more likely for AI to assist and collaborate with us. One of the most achievable ways for AI to help humanity is through personal assistants, such as Google Assistant, Siri, and ChatGPT. These AI-powered assistants can handle a wide range of tasks, from scheduling appointments to answering questions and providing information. Furthermore, AI can combine with augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR) technology to provide visual and aural enhancements or information on a heads-up display, which should be able to improve our perception and understanding of the world around us.
On the other hand, AI can take on tedious or repetitive work, freeing up humans to focus on higher-level, creative, and strategic tasks. This could lead to a shift in the job market, where certain jobs are automated, but new types of jobs emerge that require human creativity, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
In the end, it is more likely that AI and humans will coexist and collaborate, rather than one replacing the other. By using AI as an assistant, humans can be enhanced and break through physical or biological limits to achieve what was once considered impossible. However, the nature of this relationship is still unfolding and will depend on how AI technology develops and is implemented with other technologies. For now, it is best to remain assured and not worry too much about the unforeseeable future, but rather to focus on how we can harness the power of AI to improve our lives and the world around us.
